Public Solitude

A documentary that focuses on two young male inhabitants of Recife (statistically, the fourth worst city in the world to live in) who have both reacted strongly to their situation. One has become a drummer in a rap/rock band. The other has killed forty-four people and is now in jail. Both use the term "Wicked Souls" to describe their enemies.

A documentary from Recife that follows the story of five friends, transforming memories into an audiovisual time capsule. Created as a graduation project in Design by Carlos Pontes (UFPE), the film unfolds as a collective letter seeking to eternalize not only memories, but also the intensity and restlessness of those who find in art, friendship, and acceptance a way of existing.

The documentary portrays five people trying to recover from alcoholism or substance abuse. The different narratives present different aspects of addiction: there is an artist who stopped drinking without the help of Alcoholics Anonymous; a sober man for 23 years who helps anyone trying to overcome drug addiction; a woman who has been hospitalized; a retiree who has yet to overcome his addiction; and a recovered man who lives on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.

Cecília, a successful young model, returns to Recife, her hometown, to spend Christmas with her mother. One night, a neighbour she hadn’t seen for a long time, João, shows her a bottle with a mysterious and intoxicating green substance. Cecília begins to fall in love with João, but also discovers he is involved in a secret cult around the figure of Salomé, the luxurious biblical princess.

Our planet was contaminated by many nuclear explosions that left the soil and the air filled with radiation, and now the few survivors of those catastrophic events live under the ground on a shelter controlled by scientists. After an incident inside the shelter, a group of rebellious scientists defy their leadership when they find a good possibility of returning to the surface.
